neografo is a place to learn and share calligraphy. These rules are here to keep it that way. They are part of the terms of use.
1. Be kind to people
Beginners and people with decades of practice share this space. Critique the stroke, never the person. No harassment, insults, discrimination or hate speech, in private messages either.
2. Comments that help
If you comment on a piece, explain what you would improve and how. “It's wrong” doesn't help; “the ascenders slant more than the rest, try a 55° guideline” does. Mark as helpful what helps you and, if you asked, pick the answer that solved your question.
3. Share your own work and give credit
Post your own pieces. If you follow a model, an exemplar or someone else's tutorial, say so. Don't upload other people's work as your own, or resources (guidelines, exemplars, scanned books) you don't have the right to share.
4. Tutorials belong to everyone
Tutorials can be improved by several people. Edit to clarify, correct or complete, not to change the approach of whoever wrote it or to delete other people's contributions. Every version is saved and can be restored.
5. No cheating with ink
Ink measures what you contribute. Don't use several accounts, don't trade ink or “helpful” votes, and don't post just to level up. The system flags these cases to the team, and ink earned this way is voided.
6. No spam
You can mention your shop or your classes when it's relevant, but neografo is not a bulletin board. Accounts that only post promotions are removed.
7. Appropriate content
Nothing illegal, violent or sexually explicit, and no personal data about other people without their permission. If a photo shows someone, make sure they know you're posting it.
8. How moderation works
- Anyone with an account can report a post, a comment, a collection or a message, with the reason. We never say who reported it.
- The team reviews reports, as do the moderators of each style and, for newcomers' first posts, community members with a high enough level. If several people report the same thing, it's hidden while someone reviews it.
- If we remove something of yours, we tell you why and you can appeal for 6 months from Settings → “Moderation decisions”, and the team reviews it again.
- If someone breaks the rules seriously or repeatedly, we can suspend their account for a while or permanently, and we tell them why.
